Mazzy Star

Lately, a bit of nostalgia has been kicking in. I heard Mazzy Star on a colleague's playlist and thought: Whatever happened to them?

Ah, those nights falling asleep, half-stoned, to their music in my bedsit back in the mid-90s still make me smile. (And wince a little)

Well, it turns out they never officially disbanded. There's been 3 albums in total thus far, released between 1990 and 1996. In 2000, songs were written and recorded by the band in view to releasing a fourth album but I guess shit got in the way....as tends to happen alot with signed bands.

I mean, so many great artists and bands either fall by the wayside or simply get dropped and, hello? Nobody tells us a thing about what happened. The fans deserve to know! But when they need to sell us records?.... it's a different story!

Anyway, I digress.

Since 1996 there have been many collaborations with people such as Air, Death In Vegas, Jesus & the Mary Chain and The Chemical Brothers.

Hope Sandoval, the lovely voice and front lady of Mazzy Star, also collaborated with Bert Jansch, the folk legend, and around 2001 a song called "All This Remains" was released. That unmistakable voice still present in all it's trance-inducing glory.

Anyway, I don't know exactly what happened to them, but I hope there'll be another small tour (they did a small European tour in 2000) and according to an interview with Rolling Stone in 2009, Hope Sandoval said that there might be a new album.

Take your time, guys, it's only been 15 years in the making.
